
Casey Dellacqua
Casey Dellacqua is an Australian professional tennis player who is
currently the highest ranked female Australian player in the WTA
ranking. But it’s not all tennis to her. Aside from tennis, she enjoys
Aussie Rules football, V8 supercars and cricket. When not busy, she
likes to go shopping and watching movies. She also likes to solve
crossword puzzles and do coloring books. She idolizes Australian tennis
legend Margaret Court. Her favorite athletes are Adam Scott, Ian Thorpe,
Mark Skaife and Jennifer Capriati.
Born in February 11, 1985 in Perth, Australia, Casey’s father Kim is
of Italian descent while her mother Nita is of Irish background. She has
a sister, Brooke, and a brother, Ben. She loves the color pink. Her
favorite movie is Dirty Dancing and her favorite actor is Brad Pitt. She
adores listening to hip hop and R&B and loves the songs of Usher.
She began playing tennis at the young age of seven. She attended
Woodvale Primary School from kindergarten to year 7 then went to
Woodvale Senior High School but when she reached the age of sixteen she
went to Canberra to train at the Australian Institute of Sport. She used
to be active with the local tennis clubs and teams in her hometown.
In 2006, Casey Dellacqua competed in the Australian Open as a
wildcard, only to be defeated handily by Lindsay Davenport I the first
round. She also played for Australia in the Fed Cup for the Asia-Oceania
play-off in Korea.

She was a wildcard in the 2007 Australian Open but was defeated by
Katarina Srebotnik in the opening round. This result is duplicated in
the French Open and in the Wimbledon. She competed in the US Open, only
to be beaten in the second round by Maria Sharapova in straight sets.
In the 2008 Australian Open, Casey Dellacqua upset former world number
one Amelie Mauresmo in the third round. She was ousted by Jelena
Jankovic in the next round. Even if she didn’t win it all, it was a
blessing for her. This stint made her famous across Australia. She is
also ranked number 26 in doubles.
She competed in the Tier I Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells where
she reached the fourth round. She reached the third round of the French
Open but lost to Carla Suarez Navarro. She made it to the finals in the
doubles event, partnering with Francesca Schiavone. This is a great feat
because they were unseeded in the event.
In the 2008 Wimbledon she reached the third round. She then partnered
with Nathalie Dechy to participate in the Women’s Doubles event in
Wimbledon where they faced the Williams sisters in the semifinals. In
the Mixed Doubles Event, she partnered with Scott Lipsky and was
defeated by her Women’s partner Nathalie Dechy and Andy Ram in the third
round. She will be representing her country Australia in the 2008
Beijing Olympics. She is set to compete in the singles event and will be
partnering with Alicia Molik for the doubles event.
